Jackson & Coker Spotlights Challenges Facing Physician Recruiters

Alpharetta, GA (Vocus) September 29, 2010
Physician recruiters working for hospitals and healthcare systems face significant challenges in recruiting and retaining top talent, according to the latest issue of the Jackson & Coker Industry Report (JCIR).
âThe nationwide shortage of physicians, those physiciansâ concerns for an agreeable work/life balance, and identifying and recruiting optimal long-term medical staff members are top considerations for busy in-house recruiters,â mentioned Thomas J. McKeever, National Sales Director for Jackson Healthcare, parent company of Jackson & Coker.
Recently, Mr. McKeever interviewed Rebekah Driggers, Director of Physician and Specialty Recruitment at Moses Cone Health System in North Carolina. The latest issue of the Jackson & Coker Industry Report features the entire interview in its âHealthcare Executivesâ Insightsâ column.
The interview noted a number of issues that in-house recruiters face in sourcing outstanding candidates for permanent employment consideration:
Recruiting physicians for permanent hire is a matter of bringing on board âcaregivers to the entire community.â Having some knowledge of community-wide medical needs in the catchment area is crucial in this regard.
The physician shortage is compounded by doctors who opt for retirementâa trend likely to continue in light of uncertainties that surround health care reform. It remains to be seen, however, how this trend will play out as potentially millions more patients are brought into the U.S. health system.
Hospitals that receive FQHC funding as a federally qualified health center (such as Moses Cone Health System) have more resources for staffing development. But knowing which medical specialties to focus on for recruitment purposes requires careful consideration by hospital administrators and recruiters.
Developing effective relationships with doctors as prospective candidates is vitally important in the recruitment process. Once they join the medical staff, they can serve as a source of referrals for other recruitment campaigns.
Achieving a âgood fitâ is essential for the hospital or medical practice as well as for the newly hired physician. If the doctor is comfortable with the clinical setting, the medical and administrative staff, as well as with the community in which he has relocated, thereâs increased chance that he will work out well and have a lengthy tenure with the healthcare organization he has joined.
In handling a myriad of concerns that physicians and their spouses have in deciding on a practice opportunityâand making the employment process as smooth as possibleâphysician recruiters serve, to some degree, as âmarriage counselors.â
Mr. McKeever further commented: âAs this interview further illustrates, hospital recruiters play a vital role in the sourcing and ultimate recruitment of the top available candidates for medical staff vacancies, a task made more challenging by market forces and circumstances beyond their control. Their success is paramount to the organizationâs plan concerning overall physician staff development.â

‘Tis the Season for Nosebleeds

Mendon, NY (Vocus) September 29, 2010
Allergies, colds and sinus infections are among the leading causes of recurring nosebleeds. In the United States, 35 million people suffer with nasal allergies; 31 million people experience sinus infections; and more than one billion colds are reported annually.
All of these conditions can lead to a bloody nose as a result of: swelling and irritation of the nasal cavities; side effects of certain medications used to treat the condition, particularly steroid nasal sprays; and excessive nasal dryness caused by frequent use of nasal decongestants.
Now sufferers searching for how to stop a bloody nose have an alternative to tissues and nose pinching. NasalCEASE® is available over the counter and is the quickest and most convenient way to stop nosebleeds. NasalCEASE® will stop a bloody nose quickly, allowing sufferers to quickly get back to what they were doing.
NasalCEASE® is easy to use and painless. Just twist the soft fiber material, pack it in the nasal cavity, and go on with your activities. This natural based bio-polymer â100% calcium alginate â provides the remedy nose bleed sufferers need. As soon as NasalCEASE® comes in contact with blood, calcium is released. Calcium is a coagulant which actively aids in quickly stopping the nose bleed. Calcium is released until the bleeding has completely ceased.
Calcium alginate can absorb up to twenty times its weight. As a result, 90-plus percent of nosebleeds can be effectively treated with just one NasalCEASE® packing. The nose bleed sufferer can easily insert NasalCEASE® and forget about it until the recommended removal, thirty minutes later.
Marjorie Payne from Centennial, Colorado said, “I am prone to seasonal nosebleeds and I am so happy to have found a product that works so well. Some of my nosebleeds have taken over an hour to stop using a tissue plug and ice and pressure. NasalCEASE® has quickly stopped my nosebleeds.”
Research shows that 30% of all U.S. households have one or more sufferers of frequent nosebleeds including children and adults of all ages and both genders. In addition to allergies, colds and sinus infections, other major causes of recurring nosebleeds include: people with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT); those taking blood thinners; people with blood-based diseases such as hemophilia and Von Willebrand’s disease; cancer patients being treated by chemo or radiation therapy; and women who are pregnant. Not to mention the thousands of nosebleeds caused by contact sports activities like football, soccer and wrestling.
NasalCEASE® is 100% safe, without side effects and without any contraindications with other medications. NasalCEASE® is sold in boxes containing five sterile packs. Each sterile pack treats one nose bleed. The individual sterile packs can be conveniently stored and can be easily carried in a purse or pocket, ensuring easy accessibility whenever and wherever a nosebleed should occur.
Dr. Terrance J. Kwiatkoski, M.D., ENT of Bullhead City, AZ, recommends NasalCEASE® to his patients. “I have been recommending NasalCEASE® to my epistaxis patients for over four years now with great success. My patients find it stops their nosebleeds quickly and safely. As opposed to other alternatives, they also find it easier to use, allowing them to quickly get back to what they were doing at the onset of their nosebleed.”
NasalCEASE® is available in the first-aid section at national chain pharmacies such as CVS/pharmacy, and independent pharmacies. If a pharmacy does not carry NasalCEASE®, they can order it from their wholesaler for customer pick-up within twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
Seasonal allergy sufferers who have recurring nosebleeds can request a trial sample of NasalCEASE® and in coupons and healthcare professionals can request free patient sample kits by visiting www.nasalcease.com or by calling Catalina Healthcare at 1-800-650-NOSE (6673).

Dr Paul Clayton -Do Vitamin supplements work?
www.drpaulclayton.com Getting The Combination At one time you would have had to buy the nutrients I recommend individually. However buying the nutrients separately is expensive, and tiresome, so a combination brand can be a better buy. Combination Brands There are two manufacturers offering a formula that I think qualifies as comprehensive: the Uni-Vite NutriShield brand and Solgar Advanced Formula. The Solgar Advanced Formula is among the best of the retail brands. NutriShield is more advanced as it incorporates all the nutrients that I think are important, including betaine, glucosamine, lycopene, Q10 and Omega 3 fish oil – which Solgar omits. Alternative Remedies For Fibroids – How to Shrink Fibroids Without Surgery
Alternative Remedies For Fibroids – How to Shrink Fibroids Without Surgery
There are various alternative remedies for fibroids which have been used with varying degrees of success. If you are diagnosed with fibroids, you may be advised to do nothing at all as they are likely to shrink at the time of the menopause.
However, if you have unbearable symptoms which might include bloating, heavy bleeding, discomfort during intercourse and exhaustion, you will be in no doubt that you wish to do something to alleviate your symptoms.
Conventional treatments are usually surgical in nature and as with any surgical procedures, they should only be undertaken if absolutely necessary. The very nature of fibroids means that they are very rarely dangerous or life threatening, so this gives women the opportunity to be discerning about which type of treatment to choose.
The causes of fibroids are thought to be multifaceted and indeed, many doctors are undecided on the exact causes. However, there is no doubt that there are certain common factors which predispose a woman to fibroids and these include:-
* Being overweight
* Having a family history of fibroids
* Being of Afro-Caribbean descent
* Having unbeknown exposure to pollutants or environmental toxins
* Having a build up of toxins in the body
* Being prone to inflammatory conditions As there is no medical reason to rush your treatment, it makes complete sense to try out alternative remedies for fibroids before consenting to invasive treatments.
A word of warning though. To be successful, you need to bear in mind that you will need to play an active part in the process and you will need to make various lifestyle and dietary changes. The good news is that most women, when following the process correctly, will see a dramatic reduction in their fibroids. Your own treatment will depend on an analysis of your lifestyle and circumstances to determine the most likely reasons why you have fibroids.
For many women, high estrogen levels are a likely cause as this hormone is known to fuel fibroid growth. A general reduction in estrogen levels often forms a part of most treatment plans and this can usually be achieve by maintaining a healthy weight, as estrogen is both stored in, and produced by, fat cells. Other women may have high levels of harmful pollutants locked in the liver and these can mimic the action of estrogen. The only way to remove this is to follow a particular form of detox which might include herbs such as milk thistle and dandelion.
It is thought that some women might develop fibroids as they are prone to inflammatory conditions. One simple step which might be included would be eating foods which are naturally anti-inflammatory in nature, such as oats, hops and cumin.
There is a comprehensive system which has been proven to shrink fibroids naturally. Developed by an alternative practitioner, it has helped many thousands of women worldwide to Shrink Fibroids Naturally
Please bear in mind though, this requires you to be proactive and take charge of your own healing by making dietary and lifestyle changes and following a systematic program-it is not suitable for women who simply want to take a tablet and be cured. Are you ready to get rid of your fibroids once and for all? For further general information and to find out full details of the system, please visit Alternative Remedies For Fibroids

Feinstein Institute Becomes Home to Prestigious Federally-Funded Center on Parkinson’s Disease

Manhasset, NY (Vocus) September 29, 2010
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announced today that The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research has been endowed as one of the Morris K. Udall Centers of Excellence in Parkinsonâs Disease Research. The federal initiative to select research institutes dedicated to the study of Parkinsonâs and create a Center of Excellence was started to advance cutting-edge research on is this movement disorder, which affects at least 500,000 in the US, according to NINDS estimates. The addition of two new centers — the Feinstein Institute and Emory University in Atlanta — adds new dimensions to the 9 other centers that have been selected since the program began in 1997. The NINDS grants will provide a five-year investment totaling more than million for both research institutes.
David Eidelberg, MD, a pioneer in brain imaging in Parkinsonâs, directs the Feinstein Instituteâs Susan and Leonard Feinstein Center for Neurosciences in Manhasset, NY. Dr. Eidelberg and his colleagues have spent decades using imaging to capture the diseased brain. The images have allowed them to identify discrete large-scale networks damaged in the disease process. By developing a non-invasive method to measure the activity of abnormal networks in brain images from living patients, Dr. Eidelbergâs approach had led to new insights into the natural history of Parkinsonâs disease and its treatment.
âThis award recognizes the significant contribution made over the years in the use of advanced functional imaging technology to further the understanding of Parkinsonâs disease,â said Dr. Eidelberg. âAs part of the Udall Center, scientists at the Feinstein Institute will continue to utilize novel imaging techniques and computational approaches to better understand the impact of treatment on brain organization. This knowledge will create the basis for more effective therapies for patients with this debilitating neurological disorder.â
As part of the mission of the Udall Centers, the investigators at the 11 institutions will share their expertise in an effort to speed the development of new treatments to stop, slow or prevent Parkinsonâs disease.
NINDS Director Story Landis, Ph.D., made the announcement of the awards today at the World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland. The congress is an international forum where scientists, health care providers, physicians, patients, family and caregivers meet to share the latest developments in Parkinson’s disease.
âFor more than a decade, the Udall Centers of Excellence have represented our commitment to bring together the talent and effort of the foremost investigators advancing research in Parkinsonâs disease,â said Dr. Landis. âI look forward to these new centers partnering with us to accelerate basic, translational and clinical research to find a cure for this devastating illness.â
The research institutes awarded Udall Center grants have a wide range of expertise in Parkinsonâs research. While the Feinstein specializes in imaging and identifying the brain networks damaged in patients and progressively worsening throughout the disease process, other centers focus on genetic and genomic studies, work to improve animal models, the development and testing of potential medicines and clinical research with Parkinson’s disease patients. The Feinstein team also will continue to work with patients who suffer serious clinical side effects from levodopa and scan their brains throughout the disease course to examine individual differences in the cognitive response to treatment. They are also developing a novel imaging method that will allow them to identify damaged brain circuits at the earliest stage of the disease. This may ultimately help to better diagnose Parkinsonâs as well as developing treatments that specifically target these brain circuit changes.
The NINDS launched the program in 1997. The Udall Centers are named in honor of U.S. Rep. Morris K. Udall (D-Ariz.) He died in 1998 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The neurodegenerative disorder attacks a specific set of dopaminergic neurons in areas of the brain that control movement and cognition. There are treatments that deliver dopamine to these hard-hit areas and help with the movement-related symptoms â tremor, stiffness, slow gait — but there are no treatments that slow the underlying disease process.
The NINDSâs web site provides more detailed information about the Udall Centers, visit www.ninds.nih.gov/research/parkinsonsweb/udall_centers/. For additional information on Parkinsonâs research at the Feinstein Institute visit http://www.feinsteininstitute.org/Feinstein/Functional+Brain+Imaging+Laboratory

5 Reasons Why You Should Take Vitamin, Mineral And Antioxidant Supplements
5 Reasons Why You Should Take Vitamin, Mineral And Antioxidant Supplements
There is a vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplement store in almost every shopping mall in the United States. We can also find vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplement shelves in almost every super market. More and more people are taking food supplements today.
But there are quite a few people who still refuse to take vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplements. They think that their diet is good enough and that they do not need to take any supplements. Theoretically what they are saying may be true, but in reality it is not possible to obtain all your nutritional needs from just the food you consume.
Here are 5 reasons why vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplements are necessary in our daily life:
1. Eating a healthy and well-balanced diet every day is a difficult task.
The USDA Food Consumption Survey discovered that only 3 % of those surveyed actually ate healthful and balanced diets. And no one met the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances – which are set by the U. S. government about daily intakes.) consumption of vitamins and minerals.
2. The food you eat now does not contain the same amount of nutrition as it did in the past.
The nutrients in a soil have been exhausted over the years and the vegetables and fruits grown on the farm have been loosing its nutritious values. Therefore, the same amount of broccoli, for instance, contains less calcium and vitamin C than it did 50 years ago.
3. The over processed and preservative added food removes important nutrients.
Consuming even a very good diet is not sufficient if most of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals in our food are diminished by over processing and adding preservatives.
4. The RDA is only the lowest level of nutrient intakes that will prevent deficiencies in apparently healthy human beings.
The RDA was developed originally to help people reduce the rates of contracting severe nutritional deficiencies, like scurvy, rickets, beriberi and so forth which are rarely seen in our modern world. Instead, what we should be concerned with in this industrialized world are the degenerative diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis and so forth. In order to prevent the degenerative diseases, we need to consume every day the optimal level of nutrients, beyond the RDA recommended level.
5. Complete nutritional intake is necessary for optimal health.
Using scientifically researched, complete and balanced, and quality nutritional supplements assures the necessary dietary intake for optimal health.
Choosing the quality vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplements with safety, balance, completeness and potency in mind will help apparently healthy people stay healthy while lowering the provability of contracting degenerative diseases and enjoying a healthier and longer life.
Miko Matics is a health conscious nutritional researcher. She will introduce more of her findings to you on her site at www.miko.usana.com.
