Vail, Colorado (PRWEB) March 26, 2015

Colorado knee specialist, Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD recently published a review article in the American Journal of Sports Medicine on the “Emerging Updates on the Posterior Cruciate Ligament.” This clinical sports medicine update presents a thorough review on up-to-date knowledge on the anatomy, epidemiology, biomechanical function, diagnosis and current treatments for a PCL injury. The emphasis of this study is on emerging clinical and biomechanical evidence regarding the current treatment choices for PCL reconstruction surgery.

The PCL is composed of 2 bundles, the larger anterolateral bundle (ALB) and the smaller posteromedial bundle (PMB). A posterior cruciate ligament tear rarely exists in isolation. Typically, PCL injuries occur with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), or posterolateral corner (PLC) injury. The most common PCL injury originates from sports or trauma, most commonly motor vehicles or road traffic accidents. Obtaining an accurate diagnosis between an isolated versus a combined PCL tear is essential for long-term knee health and stability.

The complexity of the PCL has generated controversy over the recommended treatment after injury. Historically, non-operative treatment was favored for an isolated PCL injury due to poorer outcomes postoperatively compared with anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. Today, advancements in the operative treatment of this type of injury have made surgical intervention increasingly popular and successful for isolated and combined PCL injuries.

PCL reconstruction surgery depends upon whether the injury is acute or chronic. Acute multi-ligament knee injuries with a concomitant or chronic PCL tears are believed to be best treated by surgery. Today, there are two PCL reconstruction surgery techniques, the single-bundle and double-bundle PCL reconstruction techniques. Single-bundle PCL reconstruction is typically indicated for symptomatic chronic PCL injuries, either in isolation or combined with other knee ligament injuries and for acute, multi-ligament PCL injuries. Double-bundle PCL reconstruction surgery has evolved as an alternative to single-bundle reconstructions with the same indications for surgery.

Currently, peer-reviewed publications are lacking evidence-based level 1 clinical studies comparing the effects of single-bundle and double-bundle PCL reconstructions. However, level 2 and 3 studies have attempted to quantify potential differences between the two techniques. This study concluded that the differences between single-bundle and double-bundle tibial inlay techniques still need to be further evaluated with prospective clinical studies. Recent higher-quality studies indicate that transtibial double-bundle PCL reconstruction surgery may be able to more closely and objectively restore the knee to native levels than transtibial single-bundle reconstructions. “Our clinical and biomechanical studies have demonstrated a clear benefit to double bundle over single bundle PCL reconstructions. We look forward to further research in this area by others using the techniques we have developed because we believe that this will lead to much improved outcomes for patients with PCL tears,” said Dr. LaPrade.

Dr. Austin Wang and Dr. Tracey Vest Bring Laser Gum Surgery to Concord, NH

Concord, NH (PRWEB) March 30, 2014

Concord, NH periodontist Dr. Austin Wang and Dr. Tracey Vest now offer the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®), a minimally invasive gum disease treatment alternative to traditional gum surgery. LANAP® employs advanced laser technology to remove periodontal infection without aggravating the healthy gum tissue or surrounding teeth.

Periodontitis is on the rise in the United States and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one out of every two American adults over age 30 has some form of gum disease. Given mounting research demonstrating a link between periodontal disease and systemic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and pancreatic cancer, oral health education is more important than ever. Despite the danger, many people delay seeking the care they need because of the inherent invasiveness of traditional gum disease treatment procedures. Conventional gum surgery requires doctors to cut into the gums to remove the infection and then suture the tissue back together.

By using the PerioLase MVP-7 to remove the infection, Dr. Wang and Dr. Vest can restore optimal oral functioning and help lower his patients’ risk of other health complications without painful cutting or stitching. LANAP® offers several other advantages over traditional gum surgery, including faster healing time and no gum recession. Additionally, the laser applied in the LANAP® gum disease treatment stimulates the bone surrounding the teeth, promoting bone regeneration. As a result, Dr. Wang and Dr. Vest are often able to save teeth that would have otherwise been removed to prevent the spread of infection.

New Mexico Author Christine Kent, RN to Present at BookWorks on Her Latest Book, Save Your Hips – Heal Hip Pain Naturally and Avoid Dangerous Orthopedic Surgery

Save Your Hips – Heal Hip Pain Naturally and Avoid Dangerous Orthopedic Surgery

Albuquerque, New Mexico (PRWEB) March 28, 2014

Albuquerque author Christine Kent, RN, will be presenting and signing her latest book Save Your Hips – Heal Hip Pain Naturally and Avoid Dangerous Orthopedic Surgery at BookWorks bookstore, 4022 Rio Grande NW, Albuquerque at 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 1st.

The explosion of diagnoses of hip problems that somehow always seem to require a surgical solution is the subject of Kent’s new book, Save Your Hips – Heal Hip Pain Naturally and Avoid Dangerous Orthopedic Surgery.

Kent is the founder of Whole Woman Inc. and the Whole Woman Center located at Central and Edith in East Downtown, immediately west of the Artichoke Cafe.

Kent’s reputation has been built on developing a revolutionary method for effective non-surgical treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence which, according to research, will impact the lives of as much as 80% of all women at some point in their lives.

“The problem with medicine is that it is fundamentally an acute care system for treating infections, trauma and life threatening diseases. When western medicine tries to apply the same approaches to chronic conditions, primarily drugs and surgery, the results are often catastrophic.”

Kent noticed a few years ago that when many of her clients were reporting dramatic improvement in their prolapse symptoms, they were also reporting reversal of their hip pain. With this intriguing piece of data, Kent began an intensive study of the orthopedic research literature.

The results of her study were shocking. Says Kent, “There is virtually no science behind the raft of hip surgeries being performed today, numbering in the hundreds of thousands each year. Surgeons invent their own theories and in the operating room do pretty much as they please. It is common knowledge that physicians are notoriously resistant to criticizing each other, so orthopedic surgeons operate with impunity.”

Save Your Hips offers both a technically sound exposé of the multi-billion dollar hip surgery industry, and she provides on the companion DVD a gentle and effective alternative treatment regimen to reduce or eliminate chronic hip pain, reduce inflammation, and improve joint stability without invasive hip surgery.

She is currently offering consultations and week-long Hips Intensives at the Whole Woman center for women and men with chronic hip pain who have been told they need surgery.

About Christine Kent, RN, and Whole Woman Inc.

Christine Kent is the world’s leading authority on non-surgical intervention for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence in women. Her methods have kept thousands of women out of the operating room in over forty countries. She is author of the definitive book on the subject, Saving the Whole Woman and has produced seven related DVDs. She has trained and certified Whole Woman Practitioners in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Kent has degrees in anthropology from Northern Arizona University and nursing from the University of New Mexico.

GetRidOfGallstones.com Offers a Safe, Natural Home Remedy to Pass Gallstones Painlessly, Avoiding Gallbladder Surgery

(PRWEB) March 9, 2005

Finally there is a safe, all-natural, proven home remedy to pass painful gallstones in less than 24 hours without any discomfort.

Gallstones cause millions of people to suffer pain in their abdomens and back, and cause some to lose their gallbladders through expensive surgery.

Unfortunately, most gallbladders don’t need to be surgically removed — and if they are removed, the risk of cancer is increased dramatically.

Thankfully, there is a safe alternative. The Gallstone Removal Report offers a home remedy that has helped hundreds of people save their gallbladders, in addition to all the hospital bills, pain meds, and doctor visits.

Here is a recent quote from Robert, who says “I tried the treatment and I must say, it works. Immediately after 6 hours of passing Gall Stones, I felt like a new man. I feel like dancing. Gone are the back aches, groggy feeling, listlessness, and being tired all the time. I feel like I have added years to my life and want to attest to this treatment…”

Steve Griffin had success with the remedy, too, saying “I must say what a relief. I have been in pain for about 5 months now I guess, I did the treatment just like you said and it really works, I have passed about 30 stones.”

The Gallstone Removal Report is available for immediate download.

Alternative Remedies For Fibroids – How to Shrink Fibroids Without Surgery

Alternative Remedies For Fibroids – How to Shrink Fibroids Without Surgery

There are various alternative remedies for fibroids which have been used with varying degrees of success. If you are diagnosed with fibroids, you may be advised to do nothing at all as they are likely to shrink at the time of the menopause.

However, if you have unbearable symptoms which might include bloating, heavy bleeding, discomfort during intercourse and exhaustion, you will be in no doubt that you wish to do something to alleviate your symptoms.

Conventional treatments are usually surgical in nature and as with any surgical procedures, they should only be undertaken if absolutely necessary. The very nature of fibroids means that they are very rarely dangerous or life threatening, so this gives women the opportunity to be discerning about which type of treatment to choose.

The causes of fibroids are thought to be multifaceted and indeed, many doctors are undecided on the exact causes. However, there is no doubt that there are certain common factors which predispose a woman to fibroids and these include:-

* Being overweight

* Having a family history of fibroids

* Being of Afro-Caribbean descent

* Having unbeknown exposure to pollutants or environmental toxins

* Having a build up of toxins in the body

* Being prone to inflammatory conditions As there is no medical reason to rush your treatment, it makes complete sense to try out alternative remedies for fibroids before consenting to invasive treatments.

A word of warning though. To be successful, you need to bear in mind that you will need to play an active part in the process and you will need to make various lifestyle and dietary changes. The good news is that most women, when following the process correctly, will see a dramatic reduction in their fibroids. Your own treatment will depend on an analysis of your lifestyle and circumstances to determine the most likely reasons why you have fibroids.

For many women, high estrogen levels are a likely cause as this hormone is known to fuel fibroid growth. A general reduction in estrogen levels often forms a part of most treatment plans and this can usually be achieve by maintaining a healthy weight, as estrogen is both stored in, and produced by, fat cells. Other women may have high levels of harmful pollutants locked in the liver and these can mimic the action of estrogen. The only way to remove this is to follow a particular form of detox which might include herbs such as milk thistle and dandelion.

It is thought that some women might develop fibroids as they are prone to inflammatory conditions. One simple step which might be included would be eating foods which are naturally anti-inflammatory in nature, such as oats, hops and cumin.

There is a comprehensive system which has been proven to shrink fibroids naturally. Developed by an alternative practitioner, it has helped many thousands of women worldwide to Shrink Fibroids Naturally

Please bear in mind though, this requires you to be proactive and take charge of your own healing by making dietary and lifestyle changes and following a systematic program-it is not suitable for women who simply want to take a tablet and be cured. Are you ready to get rid of your fibroids once and for all? For further general information and to find out full details of the system, please visit Alternative Remedies For Fibroids
