Alternative Remedies for Gout- Reducing Uric Acid Naturally Can Permanently Cure Gout

Alternative Remedies for Gout- Reducing Uric Acid Naturally Can Permanently Cure Gout

There are many effective alternative remedies for gout and many of them are not even suggested by doctors. If you are suffer the most painful form of arthritis, gout, it is time you begin to prioritize your health and try simple natural health remedies that work by reducing uric acid levels.

It is the middle of the night and you awake to find that your big toe feels as if as been run over by a Mac truck. You turn on the lights to discover that your toe is swollen, red and throbbing from the pain! Though you do not know it, your uric acid levels are off the charts and the uric crystals between your joints are causing the unbearable pain.

Though you might experience this often, you can actually be causing severe damage by ignoring the problem or treating your gout with painkillers and anti-inflammatories. Though a common practice in the medical field, using pain killers and anti-inflammatories to treat the gout attacks can often lead to a disfigured joint.

Why Natural Health Works!

Gout most often results when needle-like crystals of uric acid form in the body’s connective tissue or lodge themselves in the space between two bones (joints). These uric acid crystals inflame the surrounding area and lead to inflammatory arthritis. This inflammatory arthritis is responsible for the heat, pain, redness, stiffness and swelling that is associated with this disease.

Though doctors typically prescribe an anti-inflammatory and a pain killer for gout sufferers, there are many natural health treatments you can to do permanently cure gout. The reason why many doctors are now suggesting alternative remedies for gout is because these natural health remedies work to decrease the amount of uric acid between the joints. Neither painkillers nor anti-inflammatories can do this!

Only in the last ten years has natural health alternative treatments become so popular. Part of the reason is because many people are sick of dealing with the side effects from synthetic medications. Another reason is because research is not showing that many alternative remedies have a surprising legitimacy.

Natural health works because it treats the problem (uric acid) and not the symptoms (pain, inflammation, and swelling).

5 Alternative Remedies for Gout

1. Purines and Your Diet – You should be doing everything you can to be at your ideal body weight. Being obese significantly increases your risk of gout. You should also do all you can to avoid purines in food. Typical foods with large amounts of purines are any animal-based food products.

2. Water – Water can literally flush tons of uric acid outside of the body each day. The problem is that most of us don’t get enough water. You should be drinking 12 tall glasses of water every day. You will feel healthier in days and you will also notice your gout attacks diminishing.

3. Vitamins – Many studies have shown that gout sufferers are typically deficient in vitamins such as A, B5, and E. We recommend you supplement these vitamins to your diet to decrease the formation and advancement of gout.

4. Fruits – As stated earlier, diets lacking certain key vitamins can actually cause gout. However, by eating the right types of fruits with these vitamins can counter-act the effects of gout. We recommend these healthy fruits for your natural treatment: cherries, celery, strawberries, avocados, blueberries and grapes.

5. Vitamin C – You probably have a Vitamin C supplement in your cupboard for keeping your immune system healthy. However, did you know that doctors are not prescribing Vitamin C tablets for gout attacks? It is believed that ascorbic acid actually aids the body in flushing out uric acid. We suggest starting at 1 gram per day and increasing it weekly until you reach 4 grams.

International Malaria Research Consortium Combines Technologies and Expertise From Two Continents to Tackle Deadly Disease

International Malaria Research Consortium Combines Technologies and Expertise From Two Continents to Tackle Deadly Disease

Toronto, ON (Vocus) October 27, 2010

Research teams from three academic institutions and two private sector companies on two continents have come together to form the “International Malaria Research Consortium for the development of novel classes of antimalarials” ,(the “Consortium”) a bold initiative to develop novel classes of drugs against malaria, a deadly disease in desperate need of new treatments.

Each of the Consortium’s five partners brings unique capabilities spanning the spectrum from academic research to commercial development, and significantly – their existing technologies to the table. Through an extensive program design process, the parties hit upon unique combinations of these existing technologies that, combined with new drugs to be developed under the program, represent entirely new approaches to treating and potentially even eradicating this disease.

‘It was a fascinating process to see different organizations with deep knowledge in their individual fields coming together and combining this knowledge to create innovative new approaches to the treatment of this disease’’ – Prof. Virander Chauhan, Director, International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology-New Delhi

“Creative leverage” is a term that comes to mind in describing this program. Iin addition to developing new therapeutics, we are also bringing together existing technologies developed by the partners and combining them in new ways such that one will have the potential to boost the effectiveness of another.” – Dr. Lakshmi P. Kotra, Director, Center for Molecular Design and Preformulations, University Health Network and University of Toronto.

In a field that has seen very few new drugs introduced in the past 30 years, and where most of these drugs have lost effectiveness due to the emergence of drug resistant malaria strains, this program endeavors to develop entirely new classes of drugs, and furthermore will seek to develop drugs that, by their design, will hinder the emergence of drug resistance.

With funding from the International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada Inc. (ISTPCanada) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Government of India, these new therapies will be developed and refined. Led by the site directors of each partner, Lakshmi Kotra at University Health Network/University of Toronto (Consortium lead in Canada), David Bell at Therapure Biopharma, Jitendra Verma at Lifecare Innovations, Asif Mohammed at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Consortium lead in India), and R. Mahesh at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, this program brings together a dynamic and talented groups of world-class scientists for a common cause of advancing basic research discoveries to preclinical development. This consortium brings their combined drug development expertise to the discovery and development of new compounds against targets in the parasite that causes malaria.

Current projects include the development of drugs against three malaria targets that the academic groups have researched extensively. This research is combined with the state-of-the-art tools and expertise in computer modeling, medicinal chemistry, nanoformulations and drug conjugation technologies from the consortium partners to advance potential drugs into IND enabling studies. The consortium has already made excellent progress since its activities started in April, 2010 and looking to expand the scope of the efforts with additional partners to advance the mission to develop clinically viable new antimalarials.

One example of this technology combination process is embodied in an objective to treat a form of malaria that resides in the liver. This form of the disease can re-emerge months or years after the initial infection to cause new illnesses in that individual. Additionally this form of the disease can re-introduce malaria into local populations where it had previously been eliminated – frustrating permanent eradication efforts. To tackle this problem the program will combine new drugs developed with existing technologies designed to deliver drugs to the liver in an effective form.

Other technology harnessed under the program will allow antimalarial drugs to be released slowly over long periods of time. This slow release gives the potential for a “one pill cure” , a long sought after goal in anti-malarial drug development programs as it would allow the most effective utilization of often limited medical resources.

Malaria is one of humanities most devastating illnesses with an estimated 247 million cases worldwide in 2008 and almost one million deaths, mostly among children. In Africa a child dies every 45 seconds of Malaria and the disease accounts for 20% of all childhood deaths. Furthermore drug resistance is steadily undermining the effectiveness of existing treatments – driving the need for new therapies.

Herb Gardening With Culinary Herbs, Ornamental Herbs and Medicinal Herbs

Herb Gardening With Culinary Herbs, Ornamental Herbs and Medicinal Herbs

Herb gardening has been around for centuries and the joys of an herbal garden is well know to many gardeners. Even beginner gardeners can have a high quality of success by starting with the basics and working their way up to a more complicated herbal garden. You can plant a container herb garden or an indoor herb garden. There are three categories of herbs that can be grown in you herbal gardens, culinary herbs, ornamental herbs, or medicinal herbs.

Culinary herb gardening’s purpose is to add spice and flavor to your cooking. Culinary herbs are the herbs that use fresh or dried leaves in cooking. Some of the classic culinary herbs are parsley, oregano, rosemary and basil. You may even want to plant some sage and thyme. There is a difference between herbs and spices. Spices are seeds, roots, fruits, flowers, and bark while, as mentioned above, culinary herbs are fresh or dried leaves.

When considering your culinary herb garden your most important decision is the location. You will need a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun. The more sun the herb garden gets the more flavor will develop in the herbs. Try to place your culinary herb garden as close to the kitchen door as possible. This will ensure that the herbs will be used daily.

A simple and delicious way to use basil is to slice some juicy ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Overlap them on a plate, sprinkle on some extra virgin olive oil and chopped basil. It is also good with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Anyone that has grown a culinary herb garden and used the fresh herbs will tell you that the fresh herbs are superior over the dried herbs.

Ornamental herb gardening can make your gardens not only practical but beautiful too. By “ornamental” we mean that the primary current usage is purely decorative. Some of these ornamental herbs have a long history of medicinal or culinary usage. Pots of ornamental herbs add color and texture to balconies or patios. They are perfect for lining your flower beds.

A good example of an ornamental herb is Dittany of Crete, a favorite oregano herb of many herb gardeners. It will form a low mound and produce leaves with fine silvery hairs. You would never want to use this in cooking, it is strictly for show.

Rue is another good choice for garden borders. Its unusual blue green color offers contrast to bright showy blooms. The rue leaves can be used as a garnish but because of its bitter flavor does not work in cooking.

Ornamental herbs are just what they say, ornaments for your gardens. Ornamental herb gardening will add texture and interest to your flower beds.

Now we come to medicinal herbs. Before the 1900’s medicinal herbs were used widely in the United States. Somewhere in the 1960’s herbs used as medicine dwindled. Now, many doctors are prescribing medicinal herbs as well as mainstream medicine.

There are three ways that the medicinal herbs work on the body. Medicinal herbs have been known to strengthen an organ so that it can heal itself. Some medicinal herbs purge the body of toxins and illness, while others build up the immune system which will help in retarding illness.

There are many ways to use medicinal herbs. A few are infusions, herb vinegars, ointments, teas and tinctures. For example, to make a healing herbal tea, boil water and pour over the fresh herbs in a cup. Let it steep for 5 minutes but no longer then 10 for it will get bitter.

The medicinal herb stevia can be used as a natural sweetener and is easy to grow in an herbal garden. It also decrease tooth decay and gum disease if used as a mouth wash.

Before starting any course of medicinal herbs, be sure to notify your Doctor to see if they will interact with any medicines you are currently taking.

These are some of the basics of the three herb groups. Plan your herb garden, pick a bright sunny place and plant your herbs. Remember you can plant an herb garden in the ground, as a container garden or an indoor herb garden.

Happy Gardening!

Platelet-Rich Plasma Aids World Record-Setting Accomplishment

xml:lang=”en” lang=”en” xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”>

Platelet-Rich Plasma Aids World Record-Setting Accomplishment

Huntsville, AL (PRWEB) October 20, 2010

At 68 years old, Pastor Bob Kurtz of Cullman, Alabama, beat his own world record by playing 500 consecutive holes of golf. This accomplishment was aided by a new tendonitis treatment called Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). A group from Pastor Bob’s congregation at St. John’s Protestant Evangelical Church devised the concept of a golf marathon to raise money for orphaned children. As an avid and highly skilled golfer, Pastor Bob was asked to be the “iron man” of the marathon.

A standard golf marathon consists of 100 holes, but Pastor Bob’s love for golf and his philanthropic energy wouldn’t settle for the status quo. He completed three marathons of 168 holes and 220 holes, and, in 2008, broke the 401 hole Guinness Book World Record by playing 405 consecutive holes of golf.

“Then I thought I could do 500,” says Pastor Bob. “I had a year to get ready and I was ready except for one problem, and that was a torn tendon in my right elbow. That was a major concern.” Pastor Bob had been hitting hundreds of golf balls per day to prepare for the ultimate marathon and acquired what is known as the golfer’s elbow: a soft-tissue tendon tear on the inside of his right elbow. “It (his elbow) was very very painful,” said Pastor Bob.

With the 500 hole marathon approaching, and an increasingly painful tendon tear, surgery requiring excessive recovery time and strength loss wasn’t an option. Pastor Bob needed a medical treatment that could expedite the healing process and discovered Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy.

“PRP has become one of the most discussed treatments in orthopaedics because it represents the potential for unprecedented healing of conditions which previously had limited treatment choices,” says orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine expert, Dr. Michael Cantrell. Dr. Cantrell performs PRP at The Orthopaedic Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Cantrell continues, “It also potentially speeds healing and recovery for athletes and other individuals who need to return to prior sports and activities as quickly as possible.” PRP requires about an hour and involves removing a small amount of a patient’s blood and then rapidly spinning it in a centrifuge or filtration system to concentrate healing components known as platelets. Platelets contain growth factors, used by the body to create and re-grow cells. The platelets are separated from red blood and white blood cells, concentrated into higher doses and re-injected directly into the injured area, where blood would rarely go otherwise.

“These (blood platelets) are your body’s own ultimate vitamins,” says Dr. John Greco, head team physician for Alabama A&M University and orthopaedic surgeon, who also treats certain patients with PRP at The Orthopaedic Center. Dr. Greco continues, “if you believe in a holistic manner of treatment then this is a natural way to help the body jump start the healing process.”

While a multitude of clinical studies are underway, the research to this point has concluded PRP can be beneficial in soft-tissue injuries (tendon, ligament, joint, muscle and cartilage) and warrants further research. PRP has been used for bone growth in the dental community for over 20 years and now may aid sports injuries and tendonitis.

“PRP is considered safe and “natural” because all material is autologous. This means it’s the patient’s own blood,” says Dr. Cantrell. “Thus, there is nothing artificial, and no risk of disease transmission from any donor material.”

Many professional athletes have turned to PRP to speed up their recoveries. After a spraining his knee in the 2009 Playoffs, Hines Ward returned for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl victory after receiving PRP. Other athletes treated with PRP include Ward’s teammate Troy Palamalu, World number one ranked tennis star, Rafeal Nadal, and world number one ranked golfer, Tiger Woods.

“It wasn’t difficult at all,” says Pastor Bob. “It turned out to reduce a lot of the pain and gave me my confidence back. In all honesty, I never thought about it (the injury) the two days of the marathon.” Following PRP, Pastor Bob completed the 500 hole marathon in June, raising over ,000 for children’s charities. The energetic and ambitious Pastor Bob was very thankful for the option of receiving PRP. “This injection helped me out enormously. It exceeded my hopes.” Pastor Bob chuckles, “We finished with the 500th hole and the last thing I thought about was an aching elbow. There were a lot of other things that ached, but not the elbow.”

The Orthopaedic Center (TOC) in Huntsville, Alabama provides the ultimate orthopaedic care. For more information on PRP, please visit The Orthopaedic Center’s PRP website: http://www.huntsvilleprp.com or call TOC directly at (256) 539-2728.
