Science Will Never Beat Nature as Growing Health Crisis Looms

(PRWEB) September 30, 2010

A recent report published by the National Centre for Biotechnology entitled “Can a Statin Neutralize the Cardiovascular Risk of Unhealthy Dietary Choices?” will offer some hope to the processed foods industry which is fast losing out on customers due to the popularity of healthy eating lifestyles such as the paleo diet. “The world is waking up to the perils of unhealthy eating, people are choosing alternative dietary habits and realizing that junk food might be cheap, but medicine can be a whole lot more expensive”, explains Nikki Young, Paleo Cookbook author.

Walking out of McDonalds, Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and being handed a pill that supposedly counteracts the cardiovascular related dangers associated with the ambush of salt, sugar, preservatives and trans fat contained in the average fast food meal might sound far fetched, but this is exactly what a recent report by the National Centre for Biotechnology Information has documented. With fast food restaurants already offering free condiments, investigators have cited the possibility of also offering a free statin with each meal – a statin being an ipid-lowering medicine which assists in lowering blood cholesterol levels.

The negative press surrounding bad food has, despite corporate and governmental attempts, become so powerful that people are avoiding particular foods, one such food being high-fructose corn syrup. In light of this, the Corn Refiners Association recently asked a panel of food experts in the New York Times to offer branding alternatives in a bid to change public perception. Corn Syrup, Corn Sugar, Glucose-Fructose Corn Sweetener and High Fructose Corn Sugar are all under consideration.

“High-fructose corn syrup is a cheap sweetener and a major promoter of insulin resistance and obesity in society”, says Nikki Young. “People should aim to avoid highly processed foods containing sugars, additives, preservatives and other harmful ingredients. Following a nutritionally dense diet by consuming the foods nature intended us to eat is what the body strives for and depends on for good health and disease prevention”.

‘Life friendly’ diets such as the paleo diet are increasingly becoming a thorn in the side of processed food companies who rely on those addicted to sugar, ready made meals and dangerous food additives such as MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) to sustain their industry. As more and more people turn back towards the diet of our ancestors and become liberated by less illness, weight loss, better sleep and more zest for life, profit margins continue to be squeezed for fast food companies worldwide.

It is insane to conceptualize a world where humans take medicine to combat the fact that they are poisoning the body every time food is consumed. In a global culture that already relies far too heavily on medicine to function in everyday life this is surely a dangerous road to pursue.

Nikki Young elaborates, “There should only ever be one reason people take medicine, and that is where natural treatments are unable to assist the healing process. Natural medicine listens to the body and works in tandem with the body’s resources to find and treat the root cause of the problem. For good health, the best thing is to eat foods that are compatible with the design of human genetics, not nutritionally deprived foods which promote high cholesterol and high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and continuous ailments”.

There is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle consisting of regular exercise and healthy eating. Providing people with complimentary statin will only encourage unhealthy eating and contribute further to obesity. Surely the money would be better spent educating people on diets and healthy lifestyles like paleo, which is already providing increased quality of life and eliminating the need for regular medicine amongst hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.
