Celebrating Herbal Prescription Interaction Awareness Month, Dr Sanjay Jain Provides Tips for Alternative Herbal Remedies and Better Health

Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Alternative medicine, using herbs and whole foods as a method of regaining and maintain health, is gaining popularity among people in a culture that’s been using chemical-laden prescription medications for decades. Many are taking a step back in time and embracing the benefits of the herbs that nature has so graciously provided.

“Mother Nature has given us some special plants that can be very helpful,” says Dr. Jain in his book Optimal Living 360: Smart Decision Making for a Balanced Life. “Aspirin comes from willow bark; taxol, a cancer drug, comes from the Pacific yew tree; and digitalis, a cardiac drug, is from the foxglove plant family.” He also notes that more than 7,000 compounds used in pharmaceuticals come from plants. On their own, most of the items from nature’s pharmacy provide helpful benefits, but without the negative side effect of modern medicine.

Herbals to Consider Using

Upon consultation with a medical professional, consider using these three, readily available herbals in daily life:

Aloe- This common house plant can be used topically on injured parts of the body to promote healing and reduce inflammation and pain. It’s best used in it’s most natural state; break off a piece, open it up and apply to the skin for fast relief.

Garlic- Don’t underestimate the power of garlic, or be put off by its potent smell. Their tiny bulbs pack a punch when it comes to nutrition, and is anecdotally said to lower levels of LDL cholesterol. Don’t be afraid to use garlic liberally; chop up several cloves to add to tomato-based sauces or stir-fries. For a quick dish that whips up easily, dice four medium size tomatoes, drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and top with a sea salt, chopped garlic, fresh basil and oregano to taste.

Green Tea- Known for it’s high levels of antioxidants, green tea is refreshing all year round. The plant sterols in the tea aid in reducing the risk of heart disease.

Before tossing prescription medicines out and buying a basket full of herbal supplements consider these tips from Dr. Jain:

Always check with a physician before consuming supplements. Both doctors advocating alternative medicine and those conventionally trained will be able to give advice on which supplements are harmful in combination with medications or existing health conditions.

Buy quality supplements. When it comes to health, money should never be the deciding factor. Choose a product that has a good reputation and comes from a manufacturer who guarantees standardized doses. If money is an issue, choose one high-quality item over multiple low-quality ones.

Choose single ingredient supplements. Multi-vitamins and herbal formulas boast many benefits, but whenever possible, choose supplements that contain just one herb rather than a whole array.

Buy dried herbs in small batches. Fresh herbs are always superior to dried, since the beneficial components deteriorate over time. For those who must buy dried herbs for teas and soups, buy small batches and smell them to make sure they’re still fragrant.

Using herbals as part of daily life and for medicinal purposes is a great way to stay healthy, courtesy of Mother Nature. As always, check with a medical professional before taking any supplements.

Flavor Your Life Discusses How Adhering to a Mediterranean Diet Provides Health Benefits and a Diet Full of Flavor

Flavor Your Life Discusses How Adhering to a Mediterranean Diet Provides Health Benefits and a Diet Full of Flavor

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) March 27, 2014

Flavor Your Life, a European Union funded campaign that is dedicated to providing the latest in olive oil news, discusses how a Mediterranean diet supplemented with Tuscan olive oil can be a delicious, healthy lifestyle.

Olive oil has been a key ingredient in Mediterranean culinary traditions. According to the American researcher Ancel Keys, olive oil enhances the taste and aroma of a dish and offers added health benefits. About 50 years ago, Keys, a retired nutritionist, discovered that the health secret of the Mediterranean population was linked to the exclusive consumption of extra virgin olive oil, cereals, legumes, fruit, vegetables, and fish, with no animal fats. In recent years, the Mediterranean diet and the consumption of olive oil has spread around the world because of its beneficial effects on health. The benefits include antioxidants that fight cancer and high blood pressure, fatty acids that protect arteries, and an array of vitamins, including vitamin E. For even greater health benefits, opt for organic olive oil.

Extra virgin olive oil is also popular for its taste and flavor contributions. When olive oil is substituted with different oils, the dish loses its aromas and decadence. Today it is known that olive oil contains hundreds of different natural fragrances. More than 50 of these substances have positive health attributes.

The Flavor Your Life campaign supported by the European Union, Unaprol and the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, is dedicated to providing the latest in industry news and health information about European extra virgin olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil enhances the flavors of your recipes while providing health benefits. Flavor Your Life campaign, the voice of olive oil production quality control, aims to educate consumers so they can make informed decisions when purchasing olive oil.

Health Oriented Website Provides a Healing Touch with New Blog

Mims, FL (PRWEB) September 17, 2009

Donald Duquet, founder of www.MimsMall.biz, has long been concerned about the soaring costs of prescription drugs, as well as the ramifications of the belief that modern medicine is the answer to all health related issues.

“Herbal, homeopathic and holistic remedies are less expensive and often safer than their prescription counterparts,” said Duquet. “In addition, a number of natural remedies can be used to heal the same ailments as prescription drugs.”

Duquet’s website offers a wide range of natural remedies, including those to ease joint pain, assist with weight loss and protect against influenza. However, Duquet founded his website with the main goal of educating others on the benefits of natural remedies, which he hopes to accomplish through a new blog at www.MimsMall.info.

“I think there are a lot of misconceptions out there about natural remedies, so foremost I want the blog to address people’s concerns and answer their questions,” said Duquet. “I also want to provide detailed information about which natural remedies can be used to heal specific ailments, and which can be used in tandem to address multiple health issues.”

While Duquet specializes in herbal, homeopathic and holistic remedies for people, he also offers a range of natural health products for pets.

“We all want our pets to lead long and full lives, and natural remedies can be of great help to pet owners,” said Duquet. “We can use natural remedies to address common pet health issues like canine gum disease, also known as canine gingivitis, as well as more complex issues like Cushing’s disease.”

Duquet believes his informational approach to natural remedies and his commitment to customer service will be defining factors of his website and blog. “If I don’t know the answer to a question, I will go out of my way to find it,” said Duquet. “It’s most important that people are aware of the natural healing options available.”

Innovative Software Provides Consumers with Drug Free Alternatives for Sleep Problems

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) December 13, 2005

Integrative Interventions, Inc., announces the release of The Sleep Advisorâ„¢ — a computer program that evaluates sleep using the same methods employed by sleep specialists. The program, which provides immediate results includes extensive personalized recommendations for improving sleep and is intended for use by consumers in the privacy of their own homes.

The Sleep Advisor is the result of a 10-year collaboration between C. Roger Smolin and Rubin Naiman, PhD, the sleep specialist and clinical assistant professor of medicine in Dr. Andrew Weil’s world-renowned Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.

As the result of a serious shortage of sleep medicine specialists, the majority of people with sleep problems remain undiagnosed and untreated. The Sleep Advisor offers an easy, economical, and effective alternative to conventional sleep medicine. For less than the cost of one month’s supply of sleeping pills, the program provides a thorough sleep health screening and comprehensive recommendations for addressing sleep problems.

The Sleep Advisor represents a significant breakthrough in the area of sleep health. Crafted with meticulous concern for efficiency and effectiveness, the program uses an integrative medicine approach that blends the best of conventional healthcare with proven complementary and alternative medicine (cam) approaches. The Sleep Advisor, which has undergone four years of comprehensive testing, relies on both extensive scientific research and broad-based clinical experience in sleep disorders.

“Sleep disorders, such as insomnia, apnea, and insufficient sleep are the most prevalent health concern in the U.S. and can erode our physical and mental health.” Naiman said. “We want people to know that there are proven, effective, and user-friendly alternatives. The Sleep Advisor is not a simplistic health screening device. It is an expert system that utilizes sophisticated diagnostic formulas derived from the practice of sleep medicine.”

Smolin brings 30 years of experience in creating expert systems and consumer-based software to the design of The Sleep Advisor. Naiman founded the sleep health program at the world-famous Canyon Ranch Health Resort, is a sleep consultant at the Miraval Resort near Tucson, and is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
