1,100 Water Filters Donated to Victims of Typhoon Haiyan
(PRWEB) November 14, 2013
Stop Hunger Now and Wine to Water are donating 1,100 Sawyer® water filters to aid victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Representatives from both organizations are heading to the Philippines on Sat., Nov. 16, 2013, to deliver the filters to the Philippine Red Cross for distribution to hardest hit areas.
“Stop Hunger Now and Wine to Water have a history of working together to provide food and clean drinking water to people who need it most around the world,” said Stop Hunger Now Founder/International President Ray Buchanan. “By combining our resources during this crisis, we are able to double our impact and provide life-saving food and water to the families affected by Typhoon Haiyan.”
The Sawyer® filter uses kidney dialysis technology to purify water to 99.9999%. It is capable of supplying 295 gallons of water per day, enough water for up to 250 people. It is portable, inexpensive, easy to assemble, and is ideal for disaster relief.
Buchanan and Wine to Water International President/Founder Doc Hendley are traveling to the Philippines for an on-the-ground assessment to determine the best way to continue to provide critical resources for victims of the storm.
“Our partnership with Stop Hunger Now has allowed us to have a much greater impact on people’s lives in devastating disasters such as typhoon Haiyan,” said Hendley.” When crises like that occur in the world, immediately the victims wonder where they will get food and water to survive. Thankfully we now have the ability to address both of those most basic human necessities together, and now there will be thousands of families in the Philippines who at least won’t have to worry where their next meal or clean drink of water will come from.”
Stop Hunger Now is shipping one million meals to the Philippines as part of ongoing disaster relief operations in response to the devastation as a result of Typhoon Haiyan. The first container with 285,120 meals departed Nov. 13, 2013, and additional containers of meals will be shipped over the next few days. In addition to meals, Stop Hunger Now is organizing the shipment of other critical supplies such as medicine, medical supplies, water filters and hygiene kits. The Stop Hunger Now Malaysia affiliate also is providing assistance to the storm-ravaged area.
Founded in 1998, Stop Hunger Now has delivered aid and disaster relief supplies in the form of food, medical supplies, clothing, school supplies, and more to thousands of disaster victims and other hungry and vulnerable people around the world. More than 300,000 volunteers have packaged the highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring, and 21 essential vitamins and minerals during popular community-supported Stop Hunger Now meal packaging events.
Stop Hunger Now also has a track record of providing meals in response to disasters. After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Stop Hunger Now shipped more than 8 million meals to support relief efforts.
