was wondering if any one could help me as a child i had the watch with mother the next generation video which had along with the herbs, the pogles, tales by the river bank, barnaby the bear and mary mungo & midge on the same video there was an underwater animation that had weird little starfish/octopus creatures does anyone out there no what ist called i tried googling but it just seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet
this makes me want to cry,
this bring back my whole childhood,
i miss good childrens shows like this,
im a teen now, but i still i wish they would play old childrens shows again,
i love them !
Look how gentle & claming the television for children was in our day. It was wonderful & served a purpose. Today’s offerings are all aggressive, fast & loud. I dread to think what today’s kids are going to turn out like.
Even now when I hear this tune I feel so spellbound! I loved Parsley The Lion and The Herb Garden. But when Sage the Owl came on I would get a bit freaked, 1, by his appearance and 2, by the song and tune that would be played when he turned up!
I know he’s a ‘friendly lion’ – but when I saw this in the late 60’s/early 70’s it scared me. Not sure why. I think it was the way he moved, and the voiceover – it all looked strange and scary…. I thought if I watched it now – all these years later – I would see how silly I was and that he really is a ‘friendly lion’. No. He still scares me. 🙁
Can’t add much more to comments already left; yes, that warm feeling and longing for days gone by, happy and carefree childhood etc. and to hell with the “Rose-Tinted Hindsight” crap – even my son (now 18 but remembers watching re-runs when he was about 3 or 4) agrees and envies what he’s heard of our (forty-somethings’) childhood!
Brings back a lovely warm feeling of my early childhood. Makes me wish I could turn back the clock – just for a while. My son is just 4 and he loves the herbs as much as I did. Funny to see it in colour though! This is from a time when our country really was ‘Great Britain’!
@hiyadroogs could’nt agree with you more.. seeing parsley again after hunting him out her on youtube gave me a tear for the past when I was a little boy. 🙂 Yeah,if I ever get a friendly lion,I’m calling him parsley too
I’m a very friendly lion called Parsley… I am always very glad to see you wave. But please don’t shout or speak to me too harshly, because I’m not particularly brave… 🙂
